What We Believe Here At The Bridge
THE HOLY SCRIPTURES: The Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible, irrevocable and complete Word of God, the product of Holy
Men of old who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The New Covenant, as recorded in the New Testament, we
accept as our infallible guide in matters pertaining to conduct and doctrine. (II Timothy 3: 16, I Thessalonians 2: 13, II Peter 1 :21 )
THE ETERNAL GODHEAD: Our God is One, but manifested in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, being co-equal.
(Philippians 2:6; I John 5:7)
MAN, HIS FALL AND REDEMPTION: Man is a created being, made in the likeness and image of God, but through Adam's voluntary
disobedience, sin came into the world. "AII have sinned and come short of the glory of God:' As it is written, there is none
righteous, no not one." Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was manifested to undo the work of the devil and gave His life and shed His
blood to redeem and restore man back to God. (Romans 5:12, Romans 3:23, Romans 3:10, I John 3:8)
BASIS OF SALVATION: While we were yet sinners Christ died for us, signing the pardon of all who believe on Him and confess
Jesus Christ as their Lord. (John 3: 16, Rom. 5:8, Rom. 10:9-10)
SALVATION THROUGH GRACE: Salvation is the gift of God to man, separate from works and the law, and is more operative by
grace through faith in Jesus Christ, producing works acceptable to God. Before salvation we have no righteousness of our own
and must come to God through the righteousness of Christ. (Ephesians 2:8)
REPENTANCE AND ACCEPTANCE: Upon sincere repentance and a wholehearted acceptance of Christ as Lord, we are justified
before God. (John 1 :9)
ETERNAL LIFE AND NEW BIRTH: The change which takes place in the heart and life at conversion is a literal one and is the result of
being born of the Spirit of God. (II Corinthians 5:17, 7:10, Gal. 2:20, I John 5: 12, John 3:3-7)
WATER BAPTISM: Baptism in water is by immersion and is a direct commandment of our Lord, and is for believers only. The
ordinance is a symbol of the Christian's identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. (Matthew 28:19, Romans 6:
4, Colossians 2:12, Acts 8:36-39).
THE LORD'S SUPPER: We commemorate the Lord's Supper by the symbolic use of bread and the juice of the vine. (I Cor. 11 :28)
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST: The Baptism in the Holy Ghost and Fire is a gift from God as promised by the Lord Jesus Christ
to those who are believers in this dispensation and is received subsequent to the new birth. This experience is accompanied by
the initial evidence of the speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit Himself gives utterance. (Matthew 3:11, John 14:16-17, Acts
1 :8, Acts 2:38-39, Acts 19:1-7, Acts 2:4)
DAILY CHRISTIAN LIFE: The Bible teaches that without Holiness no man can see the Lord. We believe in the doctrine of
Sanctification as a definite, yet progressive work of grace, commencing at the time of regeneration and continuing until the
consummation of Salvation. We are to live a sanctified and holy life, growing constantly in the Faith. (Hebrews 6: 1, 12: 14, I
Thessalonians 5:23, II Peter 3: 18, II Corinthians 3: 18, Philippians 3: 12-14, I Corinthians 1 :30)
THE SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE: It is the will of God that we walk in the Spirit continually. (Eph. 4:30-32)
THE GIFTS AND THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: The Holy Spirit has gifts to bestow upon the Christian and we should show spiritual fruit
as evidence of a Spirit-filled life. (I Cor. 12:1-11, Gal. 5:22-23, Rom. 12:6-8, Eph.4:11-13)
MODERATION AND BALANCE: All truth must be balanced with other scriptural truth in order to avoid any extreme or fanaticism and
that moderation should show forth in our daily walk as a believer. (Phil. 4:5)
DIVINE HEALING: Divine healing is the provision of Christ to heal the sick in response to the exercise of faith, the prayer of faith, the
prayer of agreement, anointing with oil, the gifts of healing or the laying on of hands. This provision of Christ is for everyone today.
(Mark 13:31, 16:15¬18, James 5:14-20, I Peter 2:24, Matthew 8:17, Matthew 18-19, 24:35, Luke 21 :33, I Cor. 2:9, Isaiah 53:4-5)
RESURRECTION OF THE JUST AND THE SECOND COMING: The Angels said, 'This same Jesus shall so come in like manner." His
coming is imminent. When He comes, the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up
together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. The second coming of Christ is literal and inevitable. (Acts 1 :11, I
Thessalonians 4:16-17)
THE FINAL JUDGMENT: All shall stand one day before God in final judgment, and there receive reward or eternal judgment. (II Cor. 5:
10, Rev. 20:11-13)
HEAVEN: Heaven is a literal place, eternally existent. (John 14:2, Rev. 7:15-17)
EVANGELISM: Soul-winning is the Great Commission given to the Church. It is the believer’s primary function in the earth today
(James 5:20, Mark 16:15, II Cor. 5:18-21)
TITHES AND OFFERINGS: The method ordained by God for the support and spread of His cause is by the giving of tithes and
offerings and free-will offerings. (Mal. 3:10, II Cor. 9:7, Heb. 7:8)
WORSHIP: The acceptable and true worship is prescribed by God Himself in His Word. This embodies individual and corporate
expressions of praise and thanksgiving and reverence in holiness. (John 4:24, Psalm 150)
CHURCH GOVERNMENT: Church government ensures order and loyalty to those acting in rightful authority as they lead us in the
Lord. (I Peter 5:1-5, Rom. 13)
HELL AND ETERNAL RETRIBUTION: The one who physically dies in his sins without Christ is hopelessly and eternally lost in the
lake of fire and, therefore, has no further opportunity of hearing the Gospel or for repentance. The lake of fire is a literal place of
eternal torment for all who reject the Lord Jesus. The terms "eternal" and "everlasting" used in describing the duration of the
punishment of the damned in the lake of fire, carry the same thought and meaning of endless, existence as used in noting the
duration of joy and ecstasy of the saints in the presence of God. (Hebrews 9:27, Revelation 19:20, Rev. 20:10,13)
UNITY, UNDERSTANDING AND LOVE: In essentials there must be unity, in non-essentials - understanding, and in all things - Love.
